Irian
Jaya, the western part of the island of New Guinea, has belonged to
Indonesia since 1967. Here over 100 different languages are spoken
and a large percentage of the population live in much the same way as
they have done for thousands of years.
This
unusual and challenging trip takes us through the highlands of West
Papua. During the trip, we visit one of the most remote and untouched
regions in the world combined with breathtaking landscapes, blooming
flora and fauna and one of the last remaining primitive peoples on
the earth. The journey takes us into the depths of the tropical
rainforest and up into the highlands, spending time with members of
the Kowai and Dani people on the way. We sleep either in tents or in
simple local huts.
